My Daddy

Post by gordy » Mon Jul 10, 2006 7:17 am

My Daddy

My daddy was always reading
(even during dinner)
or lunch time, day or night
so now as I'm older
(it's not hard to figure)
why I always wanted to write

yeah, thanks guys, this is about a revelation i just had recently....i was thinking how cool it is that my daughter likes to read soooooo much and she only just turned seven and she read tom sawyer!!!! the real book not a childs version!!!! she shocked her teachers when they found out she was reading"chapter books" she likes reading everything....she took her brothers science books that we we bought for him(twelve yrs old) and was telling us why catipillars go in cacoons (well that doesnt look right...)cocoons? hmmm.. well anyway back to the subject....my daughter likes to read and i was thinking about that and wondering why she does and that got me to thinking about me and my dad and about how he likes to read, always was reading when i grew up, i mean always , he was either watching star trek or reading a book or sometimes both....and it hit me why i wanted to be as writer ever since i was little.......it was my way of getting my dads attention......so i wrote a quick poem about it and there ya go....

What inspires us to write is interesting.

My husband is a reader. He just finisghed Gilgamesh, claims it's the first book ever written. He thought he should start at the beginning.

Me, I write because I have to, I'm incomplete when I am not writing.

Thank you for bringing this one back to share with us.
This above all to thine own self be true.

Glad I saw this Gordy. I have always when very young found reading a great way to escape the present. Now I find writing a great way to find my future.

Hmmmmm ... both my parents were avid readers -- but especially my mom. I think I spent a pretty big part of my life trying to prove my worth to my mother. It's not that she was a bad mother, but there were seven kids demanding her attention, so I sought ways to stand out. Writing and grades were my outlet. Never considered that I was using that to get her to "read" me.

Wow -- food for thought! Thanks!
