Dreaming In Blue

Post by Sailor55 » Sat May 02, 2020 5:41 pm

In the picture, I'm seventeen
I’m black-eye sullen, and I’m lazy green
Got a pristine body with a focused mind
On a girl named Mona
That I wished were mine
If I had her lying here beside me
I’d tell her that I never once
Skipped a single day, dreaming in blue

In the picture, I'm forty one
I flog insurance and I cut my lawn
Got a stubborn body with a curving spine
With a wife named Chloe
Who can’t unwind
I don't really think it would shock you
If I say I never once
Skipped a single day, dreaming in blue

So I won’t be sad
If they dig me up
And they say: “too bad,
He was a handsome pup
With a mind so quick
Such a stunning lad
Before his heart got sick
And his back went bad
Then he lost his looks
And he could not sell
Now the history books
Don’t treat him well
But he never once
Skipped a single day, dreaming in blue”

In the picture, I’m sixty five
I ride the buses, they don’t let me drive
Got a cranky body with a narrow mind
Might be pneumonia
Or I might go blind
If I had my version one beside me
I’d tell him he would never once
Skip a single day, dreaming in blue

And I can’t go back
Cause I’m off the rails
And I’ve lost my knack
That ship has sailed
When the tables turned
And I looked about
Every bridge had burned
Everywhere was drought
So I made this rhyme
In the time that’s left
You can have what’s mine
You can be my guest
But you should never once
Skip a single day, dreaming in blue
An easy read is a hard write.

I like the flow of age in this...

Mortal lovers must not try to remain at the first step; for lasting passion is the dream of a harlot and from it we wake in despair.-C. S. Lewis
