With the voice of the dying.
You told me I had bird bones,
That I was born flighty,
so that your voice,
Your hands, your delicious weight
could cage me.

Steel or gilded traps

That I feel so acutely
With every breath.
You told me I could
Only be free if I let
Myself be tied to you.

Because in falling
I am rising out of darkness
On the ropes of muscle, tendon,
And bone that you have
Carefully crafted for me.
And in rising
I climb up to
The height of you
And it is all I seem
To be doing these days
Climbing the heights
You erect for me
And crashing through
The brambles and beds
Of roses to come up
Upon my own self,
Ashen faced
Among the berries
And the flowers.
