In youth, I loved like the King
of the mountain,
Calling down at others to see
the heights I climbed.
In pride, I knew not the meaning
of mountains
Or that the tallest lie recumbant
under the sea
Later I awoke and washed
away my pride
to begin the descent from the peaks
to my knees
I've learned that love
is not only the height
but also the depth
of being
'
And with each step
or look for those behind
The wise were ahead
calling to me.

Really good stuff -- reminds me a bit of Browning ...
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
Nicely said.

I studied other religions all through my twenties, only what interested me so I am most definately not an expert. I think all of them have a word for 'humble'. What a great write. I had to edit this because just because one is humble doesn't mean that one doesn't know he is great.

Thanks Imsane and I agree that humbling oneself is a step towards greatness as odd as it may sound.

Et, brilliantly written, as stated before.
There is no mountain higher than the one we kneel upon when we fall from the peaks of our ego and pride, in the giving of control, and acceptance of His fresh air of love.

Make that a double.

Thanks Tom, I concur with that belief that losing our need to control is a vital step towards enlightenment.
Hey Bags, just noticed the Beagle gracing your avatar. Sensei Snoopy has a nice ring to it. Perhpas a Tao of Beagle is forthcoming?
