**-listening to you breathe-** Poem of the Week, Favorite
Winner: Poem of the Week: April 23, 2006
Winner of the Community Favorite Award: April 23, 2006
warning: this is a rather mushy poem...
'listening to you breathe'
by buttterflies
in the minutes before i fell asleep,
i suddenly discovered perfect happiness;
i found it in your breathing,
the subdued rise and fall of your chest
as i lay encircled in your arms.
in the silence that surrounded us,
i heard and felt only you
sleeping next to me.
the grasp of your fingers,
entwined with mine,
embodied my perfect joy.
my nerves lay awake and aware
of an unforseen warmth;
a slow understanding crawled into me,
realized it was your skin against mine,
softly breathing with me.
i closed my eyes so i could see
this perfection in darkness,
so i could feel this silent love
defining happiness for me.
in those moments before dreams
began to cloud my quaint reality,
i remembered how to fall in love again,
by listening to you breathe.
april 17th, 2006.

warning: THIS is a rather lovely poem...
Mushy, sure - but the mushiness doesn't overshadow the poetry held within.
very sweet.

Each of these are very nicely-turned phrases.in those moments before dreams

at moments such as this one there is no need for words...buttterflies wrote:i remembered how to fall in love again,

Anyone can be passionate, but it takes real lovers to be silly.

thank you. i don't think it's possible to ever capture in words a moment like that in its entirety, but i'm glad you guys picked up on some of it and appreciate it... thank you so much. :) ....and for the nominations... :)

Aahhh! I LOVE IT!!! You have no idea how many times I've been falling asleep next to my man thinking, damn... I wish I could write a poem that would describe this moment perfectly... but, I have been unsuccessful.
You did it though! Awesome job buttters!! I envy you, but I'm definately glad someone did it!
... You're awesome!
