* I am borrowing these instructions from another forum I run. Was too lazy to redo all of the screenshots using the Poetry Pages. The instructions are the same however.
Step 1. Make sure you are registered and logged in to the site.
Step 2. Click on the Photo Album link in the menu.
Step 3. Click on the Category you want to upload your photograph to.
Step 4. Click the Upload Pic button.
Step 5. Enter in the Pic Title and the Pic Description then click on the Browse button.
Step 6. Browse your computer files and find the photograph you wish to upload. Click on the file then click on the Open button.
Step 7. Click on the Submit button.
Your photograph should now appear in the Photo Album.

There's a shareware program called "Irfanview" that will allow you to resize your pictures before you try to upload them to the web. It'll also make your picture small enough to use as an avatar.
Here's the link to download the program:
http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm
I'd download it from tucows or download.com.
H.
Let me know when you've got it installed and I'll give you a quick start tuturial on using it.

Here is one you don't have to download. You can do it all online.
http://www.pxn8.com
Use the Browse button at the top of the page like you did when you went to upload the photo to the album... press it then select the image location on your computer. Don't worry about the fetch part.. thats only if your image already exists on the web somewhere.
Then press the Upload button that is next to the Browse one. That will load your image onto the screen. This make take a few minutes if your image is very large.
Next select the Resize tool from the options on the left. Make sure the "preserve aspect ratio:" option is kept checked then enter in either the new width or new height.. just enter one and it will adjust the other as needed. A good size for online images is 400 pixels high or 400 pixels wide depending on the way your image is orientated (400 pixels being the longest side).
Click on apply and it will resize your image and show the newly sized image on the screen.
Once your image is the size you want it click on the Save tool from the left menu to save the new image to your computer.
Then upload this new image into your photo album here.

To make it into an avatar set the pixil size at 100 x 100 (or slightly larger if the picture has more detail).
