We are having Prime Rib also. Once I get my plan of attack or menu together I'll share it with you. Take Care

By strange coincidence, I'm having au jus prime rib, baked tater and Yorkshire pudding for Xmas dinner as well. Never liked turkey all that much except for the breast meat and stuffing; mostly s3rved cold in sandwiches along with a bit of cranberry and some mayo; the rest of the dinosaur is/was a colossal waste.

Christmas cheer et bon chance in 2015 to the poets and wordsmiths who bring forth so much pleasure to us all.

Chef Jerome Braun (RIP) from the Mansard Inn taught me that Prime Rib is a very difficult roast to season because of it's heavy fat back and rack of bones. This is why as ET has stated most rely on Au Jus for additional flavor or a nice horse radish sauce. We are starting off with Shrimp Cocktail and Clams Casino made with a Crab Meat Stuffing. Caesar Salad, Twice Baked Potato, White Asparagus. Take Care

Hey Mike, too true about Prime Rib. That's why I normally favor a Baron of Beef for informal gatherings. Easy to spice and slice into warm French bread with a side of beef dip, next to garnishes of onions, horseradish or mustard for those who want them. That's part of my recipe for New Years day and a sure cure for a hangover. Baron of Beef and home made chili washed down with Caesar cocktails and ice cold Brews. That's the way to start a new year in my neck o the woods.

It's all good and getting better.

Christmas eve we usually start at our next door neighbors. There's this traditional Italian thing they do on Christmas Eve where they serve all kinds of fish,as a main course along with several different types of Pasta dishes. I usually bring a bottle of Jamesons over to add a little Irish flair to the mediterranean table along with the wine and company of both our families it's been great. Christmas day my wife makes a spiral baked ham with citrus/cherry glaze (yum), Au gratin potatoes, and some type of green veggie. For desert she makes NY cheesecake with Madarin oranges on top. Love the Holidays. Merry Christmas to all.

Hello bags, Merry Christmas, that sounds like a fun way to spend Christmas Eve and a yummy Christmas dinner. Save me a piece of cheesecake. Hello ET I checked out the Prime Rib at the Butchers yesterday and Prime is going for 25.62 # choice is about 8.99#. I usually serve by slicing one on the bone one off the bone not including the end cuts. We will have 10 adults. What are prices like out your way?
Hello Moushka, This is your post and you have been very quiet. I can't imagine how much Prime Rib costs per # in the state of Alaska. Take Care

Lost the receipt for my prime rib, Mike but the strip loin I will cut for steaks was $33.05 Cdn. a Kg or around $15.00 Cdn. a pound. Also have a tasty cooked 1/2 portion Chinese duck and some Chinese BBQ Pork from T&T Market (bought 2 of each because I can't resist a taste before I reach home). T&T is a authentic Hong Cong supermarket chain, for those who haven't heard. I also picked up some pork belly at T&T which I'm going to smoke and slice into bacon. I should be getting a order tomorrow from Vancouver Island for some pacific shrimp, cold smoked salmon and west coast scallops for when my Alberta family comes for their semi-annual visit.

Have a great holiday season. I'm most pleased to raise my glass in a toast from the warm and sunny north west (where they are forecasting a green Christmas), to my on line friends in the traditional and properly wintry north east of the Americas.

 Hey ET Is this why some folks in this world hate us so much? Forget I typed that. Who gives a shit what them others think at this time of year especially when they kill children in order to get their point across. Ho Ho Ho Merry Hanakah Merry Christmas Merry Kwanza and a Happy New Year To Everyone except the  Taliban and ISIS  They can kiss my big fat ass while on the way to meet up with their 78 dumb ass bitches. My Christmas wish is for North Korea to have a massive destructive power surge across their entire power grid, powerful enough to melt away all of their modern technologies.

Don't give a rat's patoot what the rest of the world thinks Mike. Our ancestors didn't either and that's why they left for a fresh start. Apparently around 100 Canadians have foresworn their Canadian citizenship to join their brother lemmings in Iraq and Syria. Their savage methods have removed them from civilised consideration and as far as this country is concerned they ceased to exist when they went to serve Saddam's former gang of thugs. Isis now executes foreign recruits who have second thoughts or want to return to Canada, which is fine as it saves us the trouble of prosecuting them under our terror laws.
