Da Vinci - The Lost Treasure

Post by preston » Thu Jun 20, 2013 11:04 am

Quite possibly the best documentary I've seen.
Both the subject matter and presentation were thoroughly enjoyable.

I've watched it 3 times since recording it last week and each time I get a little more insight into the man.

As a kid we used to play - when would you go if you had a Wayback machine.
I'd start with a trip to Florence, maybe Milan ... hang out with my man Leonardo.

Thanks Preston! Exactly the kind of docs I look forward to!

If your at all interested in the Renaissance this is one of the best documentaries (PBS) or should I say doku dramas I've seen on the subject. It's almost four hours long if you put all the parts together. The filming of it is absolutely incredible. Here's the first episode but maybe you've already seen it?

Definitley a man before his time,...or after it,....depending on your interrpretation of history. It was interesting to see "The Last Supper" in greater detail, in the English copy, than is apparent in the original, because of the ravages of time etc. Supposedly a copy made by one of Davinci's students. I've always been fascinated by people like Leonardo,
Enstein, Hawkins, Bach, Beethoven, Vaughn, Clapton, etc. What was it that made them so different from the rest of us? :book:

Thank You Preston, I teased myself with a couple of minutes this morning, can't wait to have time to finish it. Take Care
Oh! I really find Bags question "What was it made them so different from the rest of us?" One thing they all had in common was Intensely Focused Passion for what they identified as worth living for and the Genetic ability to do it.
Take me back, so far back, adjust this fate. Afeared lately of pen, in abscence of light. The fear I might stumble upon a plagiarized soul. Wipe this dark slate clean, regain my thought. Add the words that rekindle my depth of soul.

They were also willing and able to think outside the box ... 2 separate but not necessarily mutually exclusive dynamics.

I'd add Galileo to bags' list of past prodigies.
Prior to his turning his telescope to the heavens much of the world was constrained by the official church doctrine which placed the earth at the center of the cosmos.

I'm convinced that the Hubble Telescope debakul was an attempt by the Catholic church to return us to that earth-centric view of the universe.
There's no way that the smartest people in the world could enginneer, construct and launch it into space with an out of focus mirror.
Gimme a break.

What? You mean Earth isn't the center of the cosmos? According to who?
We don't even know how big the cosmos is that you're alluding to? Of course,
If we assume an average size cosmos,...then I concur,.. Generally
