I FOUND A FLOUNDER

Post by DarleneG » Thu Jun 21, 2012 9:02 pm

I found a flounder, fifty pounder,
In my vegetable stew.
She ate my carrots,
She ate my peas,
And she ate my broccoli, too.

I like my flounder, my sixty pounder,
I think you'll like her, too.

My fat flounder, my seventy pounder,
Gave birth to one hundred and two.

Now if you hate to eat your vegetables,
Look closely in your stew.

There might just be a flounder there,
Eating them for you!

Sure you do, NOW! How about when you were a child? Did you like broccoli then?

The only vegetable I did not like when young was a mangol worzel!

But, please keep them coming as I find your poem funny, clever and fresh!

Oh, yes! we must NOT eat those terrible mangol worzels. Thanks, I'll post another poem soon. Probably tomorrow. I'm glad you enjoy them.
I started writing poems while sitting beside my son in his hospital bed years ago. At that time he was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. He was 3. I reached in my purse for a tissue and my fingers curled around a pen instead. I took that as a sign that I was to handle my grief through writing. Gary was home from school, ill alot, so I started writing funny poems to entertain him. He died when he was 13. But, I still write children's poems for my familly, grandkids, etc. The first poem I wrote while sitting by his bed that day was, "Not MY Son!" which later was published in E.K. Ross' book, "On Children and Death." I just felt like sharing that with you. Hope it was ok to do so?

For many years after graduating, I ran the haematology laboratory of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital for Sick Children in London England, before running the labs of a canadian hospital.

I can fully empathize with what you went through and your story is in no way an imposition, more like a reminder of long ago battles!
