The Dream Pile

Post by smiffy » Mon May 30, 2011 11:31 pm

The Dream Pile

For her every morning is the morning after
Her skin a landscape of thumb sized mountains
She showers the guilt away then soaks fresh life into
her young body
A morning routine with no end
Wrapped in white she drinks to kill the bitter taste of last night
The rich Italian Expresso coating her mouth,
Imagining herself sat in the cool clean early morning air of the Swiss alps
Her father holding her hand
The path they had just walked fading into the forest below
Flakes of croissant clinging to his beard, free climbers without ropes
Before her neatly stacked the money
A flight of stairs going nowhere
The top step living, descending down to the dream pile
She smiles, her finger resting on the bottom step
Tempted to ease a few creased notes down the stairs
She remembers something she read
if Bill Gates kept his money under the bed as she does
with interest he makes if he fell out he’d never hit the floor
She smiles again,
Now, that’s a dream pile

Interesting poem, like a suggestion of something dark, but untold.

I'm kinda glad it confused you ,answers a question for me, it was actually posted on another forum I use where inspiration for the poems is gained by a posted photograph or painting, all the poems written have to relate to that stimuli. Before being invited onto that forum I had read several poems by the poet who offered the invitation which in some ways made little sense to me until I joined said forum and saw the inspiration for the poems.Take away the image and sometimes the poems in my opinion make little sense or reason. The inspiration for this particular poem was a painting of a young woman, naked, sat on the edge of a bed or stool looking quite distressed.
Hope this in some way makes sense , cheers for reading
