Ghosts

Each Other’s Ghosts

The house is built of man-carved stone;
Four hundred year or more it stands,
Cheating Time’s destroying hand,
Atop Alaigne’s watchful hill.

Its memories dwell within its walls:
Joy, loss, sadness, pain;
People’s lives may live again,
For those who know to see

And one who loved it keeps her place
Beside a hearthstone long effaced.
She sits, she knits, quiet, unmoved
Aware, almost, of changes there.

She dares to watch and knows to see
The future time - she senses me.
I too sense, and know she’s there:
Each other’s ghosts, this place we share.

I like this. On some level the ghosts of the living and those of the past seem to be able to communicate.

Has the ring of truth. Some are sensitive enough to tune in many are not

I loved this one Ivor. Just eerie enough to be slightly macabre. :cheers:

Thank you.

I appreciate your comment on 'Ghosts'

I am encouraged to launch another poem, and hope it pleases.

Wow. :bow:
Hard to figure out how to write how much this evokes in me.
Significance.
Life. Aging. Death.
Past. Present. Future.
Layers of time and space and generations.
And rocking chairs...in my image the knitter by the hearth sits in a rocking chair.

The images painted are detailed, yet simple.

Thanks for bumping this.
