Cancer Diagnosis
by classyrioja

The shock of diagnosis
Was etched upon her face
Her eyes and mouth wide open
Slow motion, now the pace
“I’m sorry,” said the doctor
Was ringing in her ears
Her nightmares had come true
Her deepest darkest fears.

As she slowly left his office
With a cloud above her head
She struggled to remember
Everything he’d said
She really can’t remember
How she made it home that day
But somehow she got there
somehow she found her way

Her heart was thumping loudly
As she made the calls with dread
She tried to tell her family
What the doctor said
Although she couldn’t see them
She knew just how they felt
Winded by the blow
They had all been dealt

That night she went to see her
And tucked her into bed
She hugged her daughter tightly
And gently kissed her head
She softly said, “I love you”
And quietly closed the door
The tears welled in her eyes
She couldn’t hold back anymore

“They’ll make me better, Mummy”
Was ringing in her ears
her nightmares had come true
her deepest darkest fears

This is something I am reminded of in my own life .. I have battled and won the war over kidney cancer after a 2.5 yr battle .. I had written something and here is is if you dont mind...

My Demise *

Suddenly renewed interests in vision,
Changing resolutions, rethinking decision
Awake in the morning ... a new dark up ahead
Bring to arise ... something new to dread
I feel it inside, as it dictates my movements,
Struggling to find, the smallest improvements
Dealing with issues this ongoing pain,
Leading to a life ... a life so mundane,
Trying to get past my moments of doubt,
Not seeing to clear no way to reach out;
Where will this take me, how will it all fit?
So hard it has been for me not to quit.
Can I drudge through my days with this thought of demise?
Hide it so deep.... so they can’t see in my eyes,
That I am scared of this process and the things I must do,
Can I summon the strength after all I’ve been through?
Do I have what it takes ... to overcome this with will?
Or cloud all my thoughts.... as I take one more pill
Limited in motions, trying to pass the time
Staring up to the horizon... this hill I must climb

great poem Eric. I wrote this after my daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumour aged 13 years old. She is still battling on 7 years later.
