Short sighted tactics

English Ode

I have grown weary of deceit.
I yearn for simple honesty.
I do not know why some men cheat.
I must admit it baffles me.
What do the cheaters hope to gain?
By lying when there is no need.
Who are they trying to impress.
What I find hardest to explain.
Is the belief that to succeed.
You have to act deceitfully.

If you work hard you can succeed.
You do not have to cheat and lie
If you supply what people need
Then they will return again to buy.
Because they have been satisfied.
That what you sell is worth the price.
They are not fools they can decide.
Their good opinion will suffice.
Convinced of your integrity.

Though some dishonest traders try.
To advantage where they can.
They are prepared to cheat and lie.
A rather self defeating plan.
It may bring limited success.
But sales are non repeatable
Disgruntled customers won’t buy.
And so their sales grow ever less.
The logic’s unassailable.
Dishonesty fails to impress.
