Winner: Poem of the Week: December 10, 2006

the space between the stars
by buttterflies

something about the long, dark roads,
winding about all unruly
remind me of your eyes;
the way they glinted in the moonlight,
taking in every curve,
bathing me in their glow.

the quietness of empty highways
can't penetrate my reverie
as i see two lights glimmering,
silently drawing me to you,
pulling me into the distance.

every branch breaking from the trees
brings a memory to mind,
of those eyes that haunt me still,
that were blackened with desire,
dulled by the space between.

the night's silence tears me apart,
beguiling me through a cold fog
as your absent eyes guide me along;
i weave about in solitude,
seeing what could have been
in flecks of sadness amidst the stars.

Congrats Buttters..... :grin: :grin:

... and his words purge up and outward,
expelled and onward through desert dust swallowed,
sands he says that gorge on simple sensibilities.
And, now he spits fragments, grit, extended vowels and elongated syllables
over cracked lips. Their sounds fall
piling round his boots…
