Poem of the Week: October 23, 2005
There was a 3-way tie for Poem of the Week this period. An independent judge has selected anusara's "5 pm" to receive this week's award.
Winner: Poem of the Week: October 23, 2005
5pm
by anusara
afternoon light on
the kitchen table
laps up the tea
from cup to cup,
heat where you
touched, passed from
my hand and stayed
in the sound
of song breaking
from your
throat, sweet and
comforting as the
touch of your hand
brushing the hair
from my eyes to see
if they move,
light shifts, strings
of pearls tapping along
the tables edge
indescribable beauty
waits the new moon
manzano covered
behind the last
pitch in the autumn
sky. what would i give
to sit at that
table until
the next rise of light
watching the
changes of shadows
lift your face
from the places
it is kept. i would
give you the cup
that my hand
had touched, your fingers
covering mine
one moment longer

<i>"And she told him how it was Forgall had gone to Emain, and had advised him to go and learn warriors’ feats, the way they two might not meet again. Then each of them promised to be true to the other till they would meet again, unless death should come between them, and they said farewell to one another, and Cuchulain turned towards Alban."</i> ~The Courting of Emer
