One Looks... but Does One See?
by Lil Gray
Through looking glass
I watch as she digs
Hurried
Shallow
Graves
Depositing within…her cherished memories
Pausing briefly
Now and then
To impishly twirl in glee
Panicked…
I call to her
She hears not
I motion
She does not see
I tap
If only I could gain her attention
To deliver warning
But I am…helpless
I cry out desperately
It feels my lungs may collapse
From the exertion
“No!” I cry
My exhaled breath
Fogging that…between
And as it clears
I see her walking away
But before disappearing from sight
She turns
I see in her eyes
The innocence of a child
Yet the wisdom of a sage
I see in her eyes
Uncertainty
Yet peace
And I know
I have been the Fool
These are no graves
From which her yesterdays will rise
And haunt
I have witnessed
The sowing
Of seeds
For Tomorrow’s Garden…
A place of tranquility
To which she shall always return
To waltz amongst the blooms
