Fatal Optimism Abounds
by Michael J. Pease
I share my fears-they're not for me
optimism seems to abound-while the
bodies of the brave lay dead-in the sand
faces frozen in time-young lives cut short
Time on Earth spawned no Children from me
I-sole surviving Son of my family tree
lived with little regret-my tears are not for me
I'll take my family pride and history with me
I kneel before World Leaders-I've nothing to loose
put your minds together-I'm begging you
you can change this fate-it's never to late
fools will let Nostradamus write the last word?
There must be some secret hidden agenda
your actions do speak louder than your words
no matter what religion you've chosen to follow
your Gods mission could not be so hollow
Intelligent minds ignorant and obsessed with greed
is blood shed the price we must pay for the SUV?
some choose to stick their heads in the sand
while our young fight and die in a foreign land
It's a difficult question I've proposed to me
what if we got rid of the SUV? a help-doubt it
grown to old and slow to fight-so they tell me
the pen as mighty as the sword-maybe
we'll see
