A Lament for a Doll
Oh little doll I’m sorry I abandoned you
I’ll search in the attic as talk I must with you
A friend you were, warm and worldly too
Storms that hurt needed a hug from you.
Hidden from the world I cried before you
Few knew I had a friend like you
Many is the tear shed often before you
Soft shoulder to cry on, for teenage blues.
Don’t hide now, come share with me again
Thoughts hidden within the layers of my mind
A friend who may be, not as good as you
Needs you once more to make good too.
My thoughts are lucid when put to you
I savor the pros & cons as you did too;
In words have emerged the rays of clarity
A catharsis of guilt makes me wary of vanity.
Oh little doll I’m sorry I abandoned you
I’ll search in the attic as talk I must with you
A friend you were, warm and worldly too
Storms that hurt needs a hug from you.

Re: A Lament for a Doll
This poem is just astonishingly fantastic, BeeJay. I can almost hear the words being put to music as I am reading it. Not to mention, I can relate both to the metaphor of a doll that I confided in as a child and now neglect as well as having a friend whom I treat poorly in contrast to their friendship to me...
Again, amazing read. Thanks for sharing.

Haven't been visiting the site for a few weeks. PC packed up and other mundane matters left me pre-occupied. Now to your wonderful comment. I'm happy it struck a chord and made you smile. BeeJay

i loove the concept of this poem. most teenagers look for real friends that may not understand their "teenage blues" to make them feel better, however you choose the more childish approach and more realistic in a sense as the doll shares the same mind as you therefore you learn to understand yourself. very enjoyable concept. =]
thanks for reading!!! =] " ill never strafe, ill never wonder, all absence does is make the heart grow fonder "

I like you poem very much. It is well written and touches the heart. Also, it reminded of a musical doll that used to sing me to sleep every night when I was little. It got lost (or one of my brothers took it and hid it) My heart was totally broken and I cried for weeks. The doll was my best and only friend.

Fantastic!! To me, it shows that the past shapes your present and your future. In addition, it shows that your past can be revisited and used to your advantage.
