Doubting A Lifetime of Teachings Can Break You

Post by GoodRedRoad » Fri Aug 10, 2007 12:18 am

She couldn't help it
She was supposed to be giving thanks.
But it kept her awake.
And she thought of everything.
Of cancer and AIDS
Of the bridge and the genocide
Of shootings at a school where her brother goes.
Where was God then? With her?
Was she asking Him for strength she didn't need?
Was she taking His attentions away from more important issues?
But He doesn't work like that.
What then? Was He cruel? Unjust?
But God is perfect. Infallible.
He's teaching us a lesson, they say.
But if God was so perfect, couldn't He find a way to teach without tragedy?
We need to be shocked, they say.
If we're that bad, we shouldn't have been put here.
He should have realized that from the beginning.
He would have looked at us from every angle and decided that we weren't such a great idea.
But we're here so she thought
god is a lie.
And she never felt so angry in her life.
"Physical love is unthinkable without violence."

Yes, there are so many things going on that cause one to doubt. But it is that doubting too that is part of the journey.
This above all to thine own self be true.

Good piece, Red. I can recognize a skeptic a mile off. It looks good on you. I direct you to the first episode or ‘Mr. Deity’ on YouTube. You might get a kick out of it. There are several more episodes there if you like this one…

An easy read is a hard write.
