Like Holden Caulfield

Post by doll_heart » Mon Jan 15, 2007 1:13 pm

His commonsense exonerates me –
Simple unwell appearance, an
Alleyway-stalking cat, his crooked
Skull like the gills of a fish, sucked
In and out, vague faced and wrapped
In a spool

He said: become simple
Read nursery rhymes instead of
Shakespeare

Then be a god and hold trees
By the roots, know each
Knob and pin each leaf

He ignored anything shade-less
Bit anything pure

His headband swelled and
Feet dug into the ground

The bold blank days expelled
Each section-crunching machine
Rang a bell

Paradoxical technique: the opposite
Like railroad obstruction
Heading, going, staying

We say people, people
And he is gone
Now who can we ignore?
"I do not think there are any limits to how excellent we could make life seem." Everything is Illuminated

In this instance I'd split "commonsense" into two words... I want to pause after "common" just ever so slightly.

So, how many actually know who Holden Caulfield is? One of my fav fictional characters... back in the day everyone had to read that novel.
