Tribute to a Pelican
Ancient sparrow among the shale
A story of a romance in fossil attire
Cut! To the shore of sheen
Another attired to die
A pelican rises
Wingspan burdened
Heavy of heart
Playing her part
Mate lost to sea
Alone …beached
Eyes search distant shale
Empathy with a sparrow
Spared the ignominy
To die in harness
Horizon stained, by
Silhouette of an Oil Rig

Re: Tribute to a Pelican
its truly sad how many of natures awe inspiring and beautiful creatures have been effected and killed by the spill in the gulf. the lack of an effort to quickly devise a solution is more than infuriating.
these multibillion dollar oil companies are so damned greedy and ignorant. they dont realize no matter how much money they throw at it, they will never be able to restore these habitats or their inhabitants to their original state. this is a great read. it inspires deep outrage along with a sort of serene sadness. good job!

its so sad what man has done to earths innocent creatures..and for what? pure greed! the spill has forever changed life on the gulf coast..its never going to be the same..it makes me cry..your poem evokes feelings of justified anger at the cruel, senseless waste of life ..
