Memorium for Garth and Mary

Post by Eternum 1 » Fri Apr 29, 2005 9:34 pm

For Garth, age 17 passed from this earth March 26, 1999.

Sweet scent of babies breath
a hint of summers breeze
Reminds her of your life and death
with no sign of ease

Forget her not, thou favored son
where ere you may be
Her heart is now an empty berth
a place of homeless bees.

She fed you honey from her breast
and you grew strong and free
What mercy is there in such death
That fell the greenest tree.

Wait for her, in love dear Garth
As she counts the days for you
Only your face will heal the heart
or dry those eyes so blue.

I appreciate the comments Moonflower. There have been numerous tributes in memorial, including a tree at the high school, a bike trail etc in honor of Garth.

Thank you Richard. The sorrow lingers for all who knew Garth. Senseless and melancholic it may be, we just dont expect the young and vibrant to leave the old and jaded to mourn them.

Regards,

Thank you Leysa. Although wordsmithing still doesn't quite capture the loss. Garth once had a picture on the cover of a fishing journal wearing hip waders while casting for river trout. He was the red headed boy Norman Rockwell painted and a force of nature whose promise was manifest yet denied to the world.

Appreciate your comment Bags. There are times I feel a kinship with the Greek poets when witness to tragedy. My natural instinct is to jest in public, appearing insensitive to many observers. Poetry allows me to express my inner feelings.

Et.. this is so beautiful and a heartfelt poem...
so young to leave this world....but with the angels today in peace...
bless your dear heart ET.. I offer you my heartfelt prayer that God will bring peace to your heart with the calm assurance that Garth is in His safe hands...he may have died but he also lived...and his memories will bring you smiles to last your whole life through...
so ponder on those times and remember them well..
Love Deb
