To My Dear Mother

Post by VivaldiFall » Mon Dec 15, 2003 11:02 am

To my dear mother, forgive me,
I can't be home this year you see,
I will miss turkey and pecan pie;
But please dear mother, don't cry.

I had to leave, I had to go,
Just try your best to smile and know,
Your son is fine and doing well;
Dreaming of pecan pie's great smell.

This Christmas, words are all I bring,
I recall youth when you would sing,
But this year, I give you a lullaby;
Please dear mother, don't cry.

Thank you Debbie. By the way, I made it home a little over a year ago.

I had it published in the small hometown newspaper on Thanksgiving when I was in Iraq. She woke up and saw it that morning.

I wrote this in the desert and sent it home to a friend. She went to the local newspaper and they printed it on the front page of the Newspaper on Thanksgiving day (mom's favorite holiday) and she was extremely happy.

Not really. Thank you for your bumping compliment. Not like bump and grind kind of kinky thank you but the raising the poem up to the top bump kind of thing.

"You have no choice of subject matter. You write what's in your heart and on your mind unless of course it's crap in which case it means you've thought about it too much." -Bono
