Memory of someone
now I think
I may have
loved her
after all:
Rebekah
did she love me?
I'm not 100%
but I'm inclined
to give her
the benefit
of the doubt
her face is hazy
in the mist of
nearly three decades
to my shame
I've forgotten
her last name
just call her,
in Hebrew,
dove
imperfect
mercurial
playful
curious
I cried to
the stars
on the night
I sent you away
I was blind
I was a child
in adult clothes
sick of soul
and not up to
the task
road not taken
opportunity
missed
in the golden vale
where you frolic
are there
archers with bows
fiends with
devilish plans
intent on
undermining
our happiness
so common
in the real world?
your genius
is wasted
on mortals
come away
and let's
spend our
inheritance
on trifles
and frivolous
luxuries
night
after night
it sounds like
paradise to me.

Re: The Luxury of Hindsight
Stirs many thoughts and emotions.
Beauty.
Disappointment
Gratitude.
Regret.
Youth.
Aging.
Fantasy.
Reality,
"You were my promised land. But God fed me with manna."

Thank you, nekot.
Your assessment is spot on. This poem relates to some repressed feelings over a past relationship, as well as the poem '91 Summer. Let the healing continue!
