I admit I'm flattered
I sincerely doubt you're sane
you take me at my worst
and never do complain
we met under conditions
far from the ideal
intentions and emotions mixed
flavor the taste of real
swapping stories
of betrayal and woe
from anxiety to liberty
how much does she know?
kicking up excitement
within my fevered wake
the rush to headquarters
diving in a cement lake
beside the restful water
like some pastoral scene
I'm swimming in your tide pool
skimming your magazine
swapping stories
sprinkled with sailors' salt
from here to obscure
and without finding fault
we met under conditions
favored by sightless fate
the wheel spins on forever
the gold is worth its weight
slightly less enthusiastic
when the seasons turn
bridges lie between us
the fire that slowly burns.
