Candle

I cannot light your candle,
nor keep the night at bay.
I cannot stay beside you,
nor halt the coming of the day.

Your eyes are blue as topaz,
but I long for brighter stone.
Your arms are full of wanting,
but they must want alone.

I hoist another standard now,
and know 'tis for the best.
I cannot light your candle,
nor labor while you rest.

Nicely done Quiet. Good to see someone getting back to basics with such excellent meter. It makes all the difference in the world to me anyway, when I can almost sing my way through a poem. This was the tune of the afternoon. Now I can't get it out of my head.
