Intense Appetite

i've ingested the truth
and wisdom
of a hundred madmen
it tastes a lot like chicken

i've adorned myself
with the facade of ten great men
she simply smiled
and walked away

i've practiced at the altar
and drank double fisted
i'm not full

and when i'd found justice
it wasn't so sweet
the light shown on the wise
and turned them sour

i've distanced myself
from the hordes
to get a clear perspective
i relate to the young too well
and become annoyed by those
my age

i've developed
an intense appetite
for eating the angst
of the misled
it still tastes
a lot like chicken

Insecurity in the Modern World

Post by cglabb » Fri May 31, 2002 12:13 pm

Insecurity in the Modern World

no one is safe any longer,
thanks to the modern world

spiderman fell 48 stories
when all the skyscrapers
went to
a non-stick surface

a grappling hook left by batman
impaled a child
playing on a rooftop,
the parents are filing suit

space ghost whacked a satellite
perusing the outer limits
for evil-doer's
and gave static
on super bowl sunday,
there was a lynching

the flash was busted
after a krypto-knife fight
with superman
over wonder woman's panties
and mighty mouse caught cancer
from a hereditary gene

who's to save us
from ourselves

Wine

Post by cglabb » Fri May 31, 2002 12:20 pm

Wine

legs in a glass
legs in a bar
legs under the table
legs caressing my legs
legs in my lap
legs in my bed
legs knuckled up
thin legs
full legs
legs from the past
legs for the future
ultimate legs
that will never be
slow legs walking toward me
fast legs walking away
legs in my glass

Love

Post by cglabb » Fri May 31, 2002 11:49 pm

Love

she took the bottle
from my lips,
handed me a bullet
and said,
"this will be more effective"

i had to agree,
systematic self-destruction
is overrated

i placed the slug
against my temple
and pushed the cartridge
with my thumb

it left a bruise,
not much more

she smiled at the effort,
went into the other room
and came back with a revolver,
"i think they work better, together"
she was right, as usual

i put the single bullet
in the chamber,
spun it
and cocked the hammer

she crossed her legs
in front of me
and took a short drag
from her cigarette

the barrel rest pinpoint
to the bruise on my temple
and the hammer fell-
no bang

"we'll try again tomorrow, baby,"
she said
and handed the bottle
back to me

Preoccupation

Post by cglabb » Wed Jun 12, 2002 7:13 pm

Preoccupation

the male nude-model
had a raging hard-on
most of the guys took a break,
feeling inadequate, homophobic
or just plain sick

the women stuck to their easels
enraptured
with the fervor of nymphs
it was as though the egg timer
would go off too soon
and something would be missed

stamina, the man had
at the end of the class
he asked the instructor
for paper towels
and found an unlocked closet

we walked around
the many newsprint pads
and found one thread of consistency

all the women
had completed the models frame
in simple contour lines
but his genitals
were drawn and shaded
to perfection

a souvenir
to keep in their private gallery
even after the paper
turned yellow

Sis'

Post by cglabb » Wed Jun 12, 2002 7:25 pm

Sis'

her head hung low
as she surveyed
the many scars
and bruises
on the back
of her once
delicate hands

they were souvenirs
from people and places
she didn't want to recall
she knew there were no mirrors
in her future
the time for change had passed,
outstretched arms were long gone

fifths, rocks and powder
were daily topics
of conversation
her next address was a ditch,
though she didn't know it
many men crossed her path
and face
until
there was no point

she could remember a time
when there was a chance
for something normal
but now,
she counts scars
and tries to avoid
her reflection

Cave, much?

Post by cglabb » Thu Jun 13, 2002 7:51 pm

Cave, much?

she's sleeping naked in my bed
while i lie awake,
i can deal with that

she can misconstrue
my silent nature toward love,
i can deal with that

we'll argue about fellatio
compared to cunnilingus,
i can deal with that

we discuss the time and date
of our deaths,
i can still deal with that

but if she doesn't stop stealing
and wearing
my underwear, well...

i guess i'll have to buy more

Murder

Post by cglabb » Thu Jun 13, 2002 7:58 pm

Murder

the oxygen thief
awoke before dawn
he turned his cigarette on
he stole a beer
from the ancient machine
and walked, then rested
the smell of death
greased my hair and face

i wished
quick, shallow breaths
for him
i thought,
if i could stop that heart
the couch he lived on
would thank me

he died two weeks later
i've never been worthy
of an opinion
since

1/2 Zen

Post by cglabb » Fri Jun 14, 2002 9:10 pm

1/2 Zen

awakening to chants, incense
and the ching of finger cymbals
broadened my lack
of religious culture

i never asked him,
a big white guy
working for an insurance conglom,
why he had chosen zen
to get back to zero

i figured
he must have ran the gamut
and slid comfortably
in front of the small shrine
he kept burnig
i was inspired

nothing
from my catholic upbringing
possessed a modicum
of the serenity
i passed every morning

there was only one contradiction
on his part
when he drank
he would rush out
and pull up stop signs and evade the waiting police

there is always religion
in the morning

Blue Light Thoughts

Post by cglabb » Fri Jun 14, 2002 10:08 pm

Blue Light Thoughts

she cried often,
stress, fear, the unknown
she needed me
to be her strong side
she stopped crying,
made new friends
and we drifted

i loved her more
for her
new found strength,
she loved me less

i often think,
if i had let her cry
would we be together
or was a life lesson
being fulfilled

things to ponder
while i bask in the blue light

I Know You Now

Post by cglabb » Sat Jun 15, 2002 7:38 pm

I Know You Now

...and because i know you
i will never take
another moment
for granted

you are the one who waits
in the shadows
with your grisly grin,
watching the sober
pick up their first drink again
giggling at the baton twirler
who stumbles
in front of her family

pushing, prying,
convincing in whispers
when the wrong choice
needs encouragement
you stand beside
the recording angel
to make sure
the I's are dotted
and T's crossed

you're soul-less and suave
rancid and pure
i know you now

oozing faceless entity,
tripping children on hot pavement,
giving hope to the old
then pulling it away
leaving them lower than before

you're a coward
and a child
without remorse
you know nothing
and assume intelligence
you f### innocence

your wind blows funeral laurels
to the ground
you humliate the humble
and give importance to dregs

you're weak and in knowing this,
draw your breath
from indecisive fools...
yes....i know you now

Goodnight, Dad

Post by cglabb » Sun Jun 16, 2002 1:15 pm

Goodnight, Dad

he broke away from his job,
realizing he'd peaked
20 years earlier

he broke away from his wife,
when bitter words
held no sting

he broke away from his kids,
when there was no reflection
left in their eyes

he broke away from his hometown,
the woods offered the solitude
he needed

decades later,
he came back to rejoin his life
but his children had grown
all the work to ensure
a stable life
had been done
on their own

there was nothing left
but to go back
to the woods,
check property lines
and hope night would come
early

(Happy Father's Day, Dad)

Shotgun Poet

Post by cglabb » Mon Jun 17, 2002 8:20 pm

Shotgun Poet

i wrote the heaviest piece
of my life,
it felt light as paper,
which makes me want to write more
or not at all

what is it
with people of our ilk;
self-torture,
verbal and written abuse,
possible social alienation
or involuntary solitude

we live in the unknown,
the aspect of life
where posing to be bought
is not a real option
and besiege ourselves
with pen and paper,
arms curved
for no-one to see
until we breathe again-
it's finished

here's my heart,
soul,
guts
and shotgunned proto-plasm
for your consumption

feed well,
then
turn the page

Dignity

Post by cglabb » Mon Jun 17, 2002 9:21 pm

Dignity

she was the most beautiful woman
in the theatre,
it was our weekend together
she took a dive in the balcony,
the stairs were too steep
several people helped her up,
i was too far back
it tortured me,
i wasn't there for her

she rose with the dignity
i could never muster
she was the Hero
and the play meant nothing

i treated her with disdain
for the next two days,
it should've been me

Shoot Me Now! (Tirade 187)

Post by cglabb » Tue Jun 18, 2002 3:39 pm

Shoot Me Now! (Tirade 187)

self depricating humor
AFTER you've annihilated someone
in an open forum
barely brings shock back to zero
i dislike radio talk shows

pieces of $#!+
who wade day in and out
with the dust of a brain
and go back to their families
with a paycheck

Shoot me!
Shoot Me!
Shoot Me Now!!!

my morals need work,
religion is not my forte'
and the drink still flows

but to denigrate someone
an call it entertainment!
the world is over

all this and the fact
i saw a doctor
buy a lotto ticket
