Fools, We Can Be

Post by cglabb » Tue Jun 18, 2002 6:55 pm

Fools, We Can Be

i watch the landscape
of night,
stars through trees
silently alive
the twinkle of older planets
looking down on this immature orb

but we can fill these skies
and punch holes
in the most beautiful of canopies,
looking for something better
because we are disgraced
with ourselves
all other shields of explanation
are of self serving importance
we've never traveled
that far from the pond

a grand exodus is in the making
and the spotted light
in the black cape of night,
along with the white-green moon,
will laugh as they should

my darling
saunters by in underwear,
my babyboy is sleeping well
and i'm finishing another beer

Breaking The Chain

Post by cglabb » Thu Jun 20, 2002 12:49 pm

Breaking The Chain

he pushed his face
into his father's shoulder
his little legs
stretched against the lap
that held him

his eyes moved from side to side
he could feel he would make
a contribution
to life, society;
a major league pitcher
and his eyes shot left
a miitary officer,
eyes right
a doctor, politician, lawyer
nahh, hypocrites
a surgeon, thief, red ball, chemist, ditch digger,
teacher, piece of lint,
super hero, firetruck

he giggled, raised his head
and found his father's eyes,
then relaxed into the nape
of a warm neck

the future was the future
and nothing mattered
but this moment

Vent

Post by cglabb » Thu Jun 20, 2002 8:57 pm

Vent

Written by a younger, angrier person.

writer, heal thy self
with a fistful of bottle
and pen
exorcise your demons
so they may one day
grow to be healthy

remember your friends,
your family,
a 6:30 wake up
and integrity shot
believe in nothing
and everything turns
interesting

coerce a smile
and fill your world
with creature comforts,
time passes quickly
give importance to rumors
and loosen the knife
from your back

vent,
with an emotional tirade
spoken with eloquence
to remind yourself
you have a pulse

give respect
to the old man
you pass on the street,
hoping to aspire

until then,
another fistful
of bottle, please

The Baptist

Post by cglabb » Sat Jun 22, 2002 8:22 pm

The Baptist

he walked into the room
uninvited,
armed with a manufactured smile

within five minutes
he destroyed
the shred of religion i held
and replaced it
with his own,
enjoying the quick work
he had made of it

nothing inspirational
nothing to arouse the
soul or heart,
simply cold pious arrogance

he had read only one book,
which is more dangerous
than a gun in the hand
of a man with no conscience

Sign O' the Times

Post by cglabb » Mon Jun 24, 2002 8:07 pm

Sign O' the Times

anxiety and road rage,
her smile isn't the same

our barred fortresses
and all entertainment
within the house,
no kids in the streets

apathy and banality
reign,
let's micro-manage
everyone else's life

money keeps flowing out the ass
of the golden calf,
my son picked up
his first penny today

we stand in line on hot days
and kneel
to celluloid god's,
did i wave to my neighbor?

lying and cheating
are contemporary virtues,
"i'm not a hypocrite
until i'm caught"

people are still hoarding
bullets and water

drunken fools
are married
at the altar,
did he even say
he loved her?

i'm not married
and have a child,
paint me a target

Denial

Post by cglabb » Mon Jun 24, 2002 9:23 pm

Denial

i lost a half hour
of my life today,
thirty minutes never to be seen again
i don't think it was at work,
playng with my son
or even in the bathroom,
which would make the most sense

was it the time lying in bed,
half awake,
dreaming about three legged dogs
and gopher pulp?

not dressing,
that's a simple formality
riding around
with the wind in my face
was accounted for

could've been a post reaction
to Panic
over culminating
pain, lethargy, disgust,
fear overthrow, awakening
and self discovery

yeah, ok, i remember now...

Hindsight Is Torture For A Fool

Post by cglabb » Wed Jun 26, 2002 9:10 pm

Hindsight Is Torture For A Fool

there was much he adored
about her
but he never verbalized
his love or appreciation
he took it for granted,
like breathing

there were times
when money was tight
and he felt gyped
or unjustly persecuted
but she rarely flinched

that is how it can happen,
one compensates for the other,
that is when you hope
it can work

he never realized that fact
until everything
was ground to pulp,
then carried the memory,
trying to avoid
anything like it
in the future

closed doors,
only opened
with a drink in hand
on a rainy day

Timeless

Post by cglabb » Thu Jun 27, 2002 8:23 pm

Timeless

I'm sorry but I had to get this outta my system, I needed the laugh. Hope someone agrees.

incensed by my mused up themes,
i sit down to write something
of importance;
poignant
timeless

"my baby boy farts rose petals"

Her Lines

Post by cglabb » Sat Jun 29, 2002 1:04 pm

Her Lines

she wrote a poem
about my bike travels,
the trials of searching
for a soul

until then,
words were
entertainment
and formula

how she connected
her thoughts
with my feelings
baffled me

the reading i had done
was all 2nd hand knowledge
compared to the purity
in the typed page
before me

it was an awakening
to clean out
my laundry bag
of a mind

my adrenaline builds
every time
i read from her soul

Sartre's Jealousy

Post by cglabb » Sat Jun 29, 2002 8:14 pm

Sartre's Jealousy

the walls closed in
and the table shook
the phone rang non-stop
neighbors yelled
from the streets below

nothing,
inanimate or alive
wanted him to write this piece
some things shouldn't be expressed

he forced the words
and they began to flow
you could smell the decay
of ill thought
foul ink permeated the pages,
his clothes
would have to be burned

a dark hole opened in the floor,
he caught it
and smiled,
pen never left paper
ten pages later the hole enveloped a chair leg
and his smile was broader,
deeper, sinister

the ceiling pushed his head low
the wall pressed
the small of his back
a bit of snappy drool
reached for the table top,
then he was finished

the streets were empty
and the phone silent
it had been done

he held the pages high
into the yellow light,
the title read;
"I Watched Camus Die"

the smile couldn't be replaced
because it had never left
the gun was at his temple
and the smile never left
the spray was orange
in this light

his head rest on the pages,
blood dissolving the written word

the rivalry has ended

Sunday Affirmation

Post by cglabb » Sun Jun 30, 2002 6:55 pm

Sunday Affirmation

kids are screamig in the yard
and my son is running
in the house at full tilt,
knee's locked and on his toes,
like a russian gymnast

his mantra
of "Mamma, Mamma, Mamma"
drowns everything out,
he adores her

i'm sitting in the bathroom
reading another compilation
and wondering,
"what are you doing
with your life?"

my next stop
is the grocery store,
so i ask my darling
to slip a piece of paper
and pen under the door
for the list of essentials
on the back,
i try to capture
what will not be
the next EPIC poem

a sunday afternoon,
a few beers
with mother and child
now quietly cuddled together
watchng "beauty and the beast,"
fitting

sometimes,
it is the little things

More Blue Light

Post by cglabb » Tue Jul 02, 2002 9:22 pm

More Blue Light

in this dim bar light
i see better
the things burned by sunlight
come alive
i see life
without distraction

ugliness subsides
beauty is taken by word
feelings spoken without inhibtion

blue light, almost dark,
allows thoughts and opinions
masked by the day

you can breathe this light,
live in slow motion
a paralysis of the trivial,
enabling absurd diffusions

too much insanity,
too little...

Pointless Gray Eyes

Post by cglabb » Wed Jul 03, 2002 9:43 pm

Pointless Gray Eyes

she saw him through
pointless gray eyes
and thought about
the reason she was born
she followed with a wintry smile
and rolled off of him,
hoping he'd allow this moment
to be what it was,
sex
the most fulfilling sensation
fleeting to a feeling
less than content

she wasn't happy,
nor did she
want to be

she was contagious,
infecting by pose or gesture,
dissolving any response
of joy

the end always seems so simple
when you are ready
to blow everything out
for no reason

Boom

Post by cglabb » Thu Jul 04, 2002 12:52 pm

Boom

the epitome and cliche
of an angry man,
i am

i've read too many books,
act too quickly
and coalesce the idea's
of single minded loon's

this is not the manner
for fun
or profit

self indulgence
combined with the written word
leads to a well deserved madness

strong will conquers mountains
determined ideals change minds
faith brings hope
youth spearheads innovation
and Age is the watermark

these are all
fast moving trains
i cannot board

unstoppable force
immovable object
boom

An Unexpected Friend in the Midwest

Post by cglabb » Sat Jul 06, 2002 8:56 pm

An Unexpected Friend in the Midwest

"...of the brown and gray
diffusion
between truth and reality
the tree's will never speak,
observe, absorb-yes
excrement to murdered bodies,
food of the god's

ssh, lay low now,
the earth is so receptive

so, who hasn't!
hasn't everyone
served the purpose
of the wrong side
at the right time?

they're gone and i must leave
cover your face in this field,
so many have done the same
and your worst can't compare

on your back
you can see the purple light,
the stars of reproach
never voice themselves

no! i don't care to know,
you seem quite nice

travel safe, friend..."
