Mémoires de L'amour (French)

I Cry

When I think of what I've done,
I cry.
When I see it's just begun,
I die.
When I witness all the pain,
I cry.
When it happens all again,
I die.
When I fail to comfort you,
I cry.
When there's nothing left to do,
I die.
When
I think of what I've done
I witness all the pain
I fail to comfort you,
I cry
and die.

Insomnia

Late at night the demons come
To steal away my sleep.
I’m theirs if not for the
Undying love I keep.

I fight the sandman’s coming
For often my dreams scare.
Images of days gone by,
I wish they were not there.

But with the morning comes rest
For the poor, weary soul.
I feel the touch of daylight,
And once again am whole.

Plastic Venus

False crystal vase,
sitting beside
an open window;
feels the kiss
of spring's tepid breeze,
yet still shivers.

Tall, lithe,
even beautiful
to the average eyel
but crafted from
cold hands of man,
a false idol.

Nudged ever slightly
by a breeze,
it plummets,
bounces unharmed
off the dingy,
linoleum floor.

Later, a maid
curses softly
under her breath;
places the false crystal
back in its place
by the window.

I Don’t Believe In Forever

I don't believe in forever.
I've seen the sands of time
fall through my hourglass.
Love has come and gone
like swallows in that far-off land.
People die all around,
and I endure.
They all go to rest
in the tomb's embrace.
I remain, steadfast,
a pillar of indifference.
Grief has gone as well,
gone for another day.
Love, death and sadness,
my forelorn trinity.
Hold me close,
for it is cold.
I don't believe in forever.

**Necessary Evil**

Despair's sullied blight
has but one remedy,
though most deny him:
apathy.

Avoided for fear of letting go,
I do not know
why he has so few
companions.

True, when he is around,
happiness is unlikely
to be found, and yet,
I do not fear him.
For sadness keeps its distance
from his stead.

Many words are said
from him to me,
a cacophonous melody
of hurried words.

I stand here with him
eye to eye,
and just between
you and I,
I find him quite appealling.

Though if I had but time
I might, in kind,
let him know
just who I am.

Yet to remain for long
is folly.
Surely making friends
is the wrong decison.

I stay by his side
until sadness relinquishes
its chase.

No statue of sodium am I,
no pillar of pathos,
cursed to silent Stoicism
for eternity.

At the present,
love seems but fantasy,
yet doubtless I
will realize it soon.

We Are All Risen

Never give up.
Though the lash may strike you,
though your blood may flow,
do not lay down.

The cross you bear,
that weight of the world,
cannot break your will.

Rise above your pain.
That which does not kill you
can only strengthen your resolve.
Let the whip cut you,
that blood may give you strength.

For He was not a substitute,
but an example.
We must all bear the cross,
suffer the thorns and nails,
before our salvation.

He waits for us all,
arms outstreched,
with joyous tears flowing.

The Spirit is within you.
Let Her wisdom guide you.
Suffer as He did long ago,
and rise from that suffering,
like the blazing phoenix.
Arise and become new,
bathe your soul in light.

Prophecy

Deep in the forest, lush and green,
there lies a hidden force.
His eyes speak passion, right and true,
his toenails scrape the forest floor.

A brilliant garment of green ivy,
does wear the noble knight.
An ancient magic does he weave
within the forest light.

And now the forest quiets,
and now the branches still.
And now with the axe's swing,
the Green Man has been killed.

Upon the hill of Calvary,
I hung my head, ashamed to see
The one they tell me gave his life today,
His blood shed this time, so that one day,
I too may know his legacy.

Deep in my heart he speaks to me,
I know not yet if I can be,
Strong enough that I may truthfully say:

“Never man, but so much more!”

Such a material society,
Even words spoken truthfully
May not shine through oft’ misguided ways,
In darkness they may linger all their days,
But one of them I will not be.

“Never man, but so much more!”

Warm sun draws up around my shoulders.
Rain drops splash around my feet.

I sit silently.

Earth yawns in a flash of purple.
Sun drops below my vision.
Evening comes in a whisper.

I sit silently.

Mind is always restless.

Drop your hymnal
and your prayerbook.
Get off your knees,
and take a look
around you.
The cathedral's crumbling,

all about you.
Your throat is dry

but god can't hear
a word your saying,
his cloud is far too high.
Keep your head

You may think
you're getting older,

getting dead.

Mémoires de L'amour (French)

(Note: This is an on-line translation, but I think it came out fairly well.)

À votre contact chaud mon coeur aspire.

Les mémoires douces sont toutes que j'ai ;
Parti emballé à l'intérieur de mon esprit.
Oh mon amour, mon rossignol doux,

Eternity

Love never dies.
It lingers on,
Silently, quietly,
But it does not perish.

I hear your words
And I anguish.
How could you turn
Away from me?
As if the time we
Had meant nothing…

What a selfish thing
I have become.
I see myself in
Everything you do.
How does it affect me,
I ask.

Now my eyes have
Opened.
I see the error
Of my ways.
I am humbled.

Love lingers on,
Faintly now,
But it is there.
Your smile still
Brightens my day.
Your laugh still
Lifts my spirit.
I love you.

These problems,
Whatever they may be,
Are not born
From love.
They come from some
Place unknown.
I cannot see them,
And yet they strike
You so viciously.

You are not alone.
I have been with you
For so long,
It seems;
And that shall not change.

I will remain beside you,
Through darkness
And through light.
An ear to listen,
A shoulder to cry on,
A hand to hold:
I will be all these things.

And if the rain should fall,
I will cover you.
The pouring water shall
Not dampen you.
I will keep you safe,
Tearing back the shadows
From the sun.

You are a precious rose,
So beautiful
And young.
The world is cold
And merciless
At times.
But I will not
Let it hurt you.

I will kiss away
Your tears,
I will be there
To listen,
To help,
To hold.

I have always loved you.
Nothing will ever
Change that truth.
Love has no age.

Blurred

I cannot apologize
for the words I said;
they are said.
Let them dwell within your heart
or let them go;
either way they perish.
For the tongue speaks without restraint,
foolishly at times.
It may seem easy to deny you,
to tell myself you do not matter.
Far easier, for certain,
than holding on to maybe.
To be honest,
I could never do it;
could never say you do not matter,
for you do.
Still you haunt my dreams;
a wailing banshee
in a Scottish castle.
And, like the moors,
my mind grows foggy;
Reality is slipping.
What is true?
What is not?
Is the love we once professed still true?
Or did it wither in the darkness
long ago?
In either case,
one truth remains within me:
A love still beats within my chest
and flows freely through my veins

Can you understand?
Have you felt it too?
The fear of losing
something so precious?
Do you know the grip
of loneliness too?
Can you blame me if
I'm a bit afraid?
You are a blessing.
Just one wrong step and
you're forever gone.
Please don't hate me for
being so afraid.
When I first met you,
I was so confused.
Such a life, so pure,
how could I help it?
Did I deserve you?
I did not think so.
And when I got you,
I feared it would end.
A horrible thing,
to live life in fear.
I know that so well.
My love for you will
never see its end.
Even if you find
another to love.
I will not live in
fear of losing you.
Instead I'll live in
joyful celebration.
I love you more than
you will ever know.
And I will show it
every single day.

And speak to me of better times gone by.
I would not hasten love her speech to start,
Rather I would sit with her and not reply.
I do not yearn for better days at all,
I welcome the coming of the twilight.
Though I often sit and try to recall,
The many things I have done wrong and right.
I love you darling more than you can know,
Though I have done many a stupid thing.
When I look upon you my heart does glow,
I calmly float upon love's crystal wing.
I swear I will love you forever more,

I Sing Of Love

This is a song
for the broken-hearted;
Those who can see no light,
whose dreams and nightmares
steal away their sleepless nights.

This is a verse
for the lonely hearts;
Those with no hand to hold,
whose hearts have gone away
and left them only bitter cold.

This is a lyric
for the bitter spirits;
Those who feel only rage,
whose anger slowly trapes them
in some soulless, blinding cage.

Love, my saddened,
lonely, bitter friends,
that is your key.
Though she may have gone,
or never come,
or come and left you scorned;
In the end
she comes for all:
For you, and me,
for the very scourges
of society.

So hug a loved one,
near or far,
and keep this verse within your heart:
Love is with you,
night and day,
no matter
who or where
or what you are.

If I had known
it would end so soon,
I would have held you closer,
kissed you softer,
loved you harder.

I should have left you
on your pedestal,
though sometimes,
you were hard to see.

I should have worshipped
your lovely figure,
made your ankles into columns
of a virgin temple.

Where is torrid rapture
such as I used to know?
That brazen passion,
unchecked fire in the soul
scorching brimstone in the heart.

I cry tears of sand,
dry, coarse,
My reddened eyes
grow ever cloudy.

Empty beds,
nights of fog;
Often I cannot tell
thick fog from
my misty breath.

You came like gentle
summer wind,
warm and pleasant,
but quickly gone.

Now winter grips me
in his icy palm.
No emotions,
no remorse,
only ice and snow.

My eyes turn west
to catch a glimpse,
a fleeting glimpse,
of your summer wind.

Love, In Reality

I've felt the cold touch
of insincere goodbyes.
I've seen the empty look
in a lover's eyes;
A look so haunting,
as if I could see into her soul
if I looked hard enough.

But a part of me wonders,
if all these memories
are nothing more than that;
Images scrawled without regard
on naked canvasses,
paint splatters, streaks of color,
only there for the sake of space.

Is this how I have made my love?
Have I dipped my pen
in too many empty inkwells?
Have I scribbled my notes
on the backs of cocktail napkins,
on scraps of paper that would soon
find their way into les poubelles?

Have I dreamed all of this?
Every kiss,
every touch,
every smile,
nothing but a dream?
Oh please say it isn't so.

Let me know for sure,
that I haven't been deceived.
Tell me you loved me,
even if the flame
of your heart has been snuffed.

Hold me close,
if only for a moment.
Smother me in memory,
drown me in a sea
of crinkled love notes
and faded photographs.

I loved you once,
and perhaps I still do.
Perhaps, one day,
I will brush away
all the clutter in my life,
and find you there.

You have always been there,
in some corner of my mind,
a shadow of something,
love I think.
Yes, a shadow of love,
wrapped in red ribbon
and pink tule.

One day, one glorious day
when all my clutter
has been swept away,
we will dance.
Dance, like we did in youth,
when days were short
and nights were long.

And now this song,
like all, must end.
But don't despair,
don't hang your head
of golden hair.
Smile,
for where love is,
I am not far behind.

And as the wheel turns,
with each passing day,

Your golden locks
became more brilliant.

And this love,
this flawless gem,
has grown stronger

As the wheel turns again,

If I told you
that I loved you,
could you believe?

If I knelt before you,
heart in hands
and tears in eyes,
could you see
beyond my past?

Could you part the mists
of my soul?

If you will allow me,
I will try to show
my bleeding heart.

You may think
that I am only searching
for a temporary fix,
a bit of paste for my pain.

I understand your anxiety,
your fear of me.

I will not lie.
I have no answers,
no promises,
no certainties.

And perhaps your fears
see my inner darkness,
hidden even from me.

But to wrap yourself
in possibility,
to shut out what is
in fear of what might be,
can be so much worse.

There is something worse,
far worse than death:
The unlived life.

I will prove you wrong
or die trying.

In The Garden

I cannot know the future,
for it is a nebulous creation,
never certain,
ever changing,
perhaps mere fiction
of this world.

Nor can I undo the past,
for it has gone away,
never staying,
ever fleeting,
perhaps it never
was at all.

But, dear lady,
I can see the present.
I can glean the truth
from this moment
and the next.

And could I see the future,
I might see us two together,
'neath the light of the moon,
in some shady forest,
or foamy, sandy shore.

And though good sense tells me
not to taste forbidden fruits,
I cannot resist.
The comforting embrace
of branches,
and sweet scent
of blooming buds
draw me ever closer.

Oh, gentle mistress,
can you blame me?
How could any man resist
such tempations?

So I linger in this garden,
inhaling sweet scents
and viewing
vibrant colors.

How long shall I wait
fair maiden?
How long must I hold back
my passions?

The promise of love is sweet,
and so my passions
hold themselves at bay.

Happy Birthday

Mother, you are the one
who brought me to this life.
You guided me through the
happy times and the sad.
You picked me up when I was down,
and stood by me in joyous times.
You were my strength when I was weak,
a better friend I could not have.
You kept me warm when
the cold wind did blow.
How can I thank you?
I can find no way.
I can write a verse of love,
for that's what you gave to me.
A love unconditional,
even when I could not see it.
Thank you mom,
I love you.

Young Roses

Upon the field of rotting death,
Lie souls of lives forgotten.
No one knows their story,
No one sees their tears.

Roses bloom, fed by their marrow,
Admired for their beauty.
Picked by lovers in Spring,
Carried home to die.

So does turn the wheel of the year,
Again, lives return to dust.
All one day forgotten,
But for now, revered.

In tribute to the men and women still dying in Iraq. May they all return home soon.

Stolen

Today, a life was stolen,
spirited away,
before we had a chance
to say goodbye.
And though our eyes
may fill with tears,
we must remember
better years.
Teacher, friend,
yet so much more.
You shall live on,
forevermore.

In memory of my former teacher, Mr. Jones, who lost his battle with cancer yesterday. May God smile upon you.
