Before Life

let true light shine

made flesh
weak and bound
surprised by faith
driven by reason
to a median
stake in the ground

the snake deceived us
thinking we could achieve
total mastery
escape the senses
tie up the tenses
trick up the sleeve

carried on the wind
caught up in the cloud
free to imagine
something to shout
hope beyond doubt
one alone in a crowd

stay awake
the master's warning
many will come
and many will go
one Sabbath's night
gives way to Easter morning.
