I do exist

I am both
I am inconsequential

I am the heathen
the scourge of sick society
I am the oppressed
I have become
the oppressor
I alone am the answer
I never would have guessed

I am the true religion
the great all
heaven under hell
I am death defined
as life everlasting
I am the poison
in the well

I am Babylon
away with mystery
I am only you
the virgin whore
your unconscious my throne
the voice of confusion
I am the tried-and-true

I am the eminent
the great Unknown
you who revere me
no reward awaits
for your obedience
save for fire
the worm, final liberty

From all lack
I am abundance
from all light
infinite darkness
I am the opposite
I am the same
I am profound
I am profane

I am the two masters
yet bound we are one
father of many
mother of none
the new science
flesh made machine
I am the devout
unbecoming, obscene.

I really enjoyed this. Obviously, you're a bit cynical about the after life. I have a good friend who your poem reminds me of. He's said in the past, that his idea of heaven would be complete darkness, with no sensory input at all. To me,.. imagining an eternity in those conditions would seem more like Hell. Personally,...I'd rather be dead.

Thanks, Moushka. Thanks, bags. I thought heaven was the dark side of the moon, then I found out, "as a matter of fact, it's all dark."

This one might be more observational, and less personal. I won't allow myself to be dogmatic regarding the meaning of a lyric, but this fellow could be poking holes in the institution of religion, of "metaphysics" or gnosis. More likely, I was just cranky.
