kissing on a screen
what do you think
is it sweet or simply obscene?

two sons
one of them is mine
it's beautiful to me
a time of the signs

behind the pulpit
the reverend's uptight
the message irrelevant
always black-and-white
your savior is helpless
the way ahead is selfless
inside you'll find a light

I relapsed, collapsed
in a worn-out heap
trained to be little more
than well-versed, well-armed sheep
then I had a singular thought

perhaps being a
devotee of the Messiah
sometimes requires questioning
everything I was taught
God, I need some quality sleep

what's wrong
with youth today?
ask their parents
ask their teachers
ask the good ol' USA
I ask myself

with 20/20 vision
looking back it's easy to see
sunset on the subdivision
in debt to the next generation
tired, poor, huddled
yearning to be free

two sons
one of them is mine
with a little luck
we'll all be just fine.
