Without Warning

Without Warning

Lo,
how the dawn
will begin without warning
Softly the stars
disappear from the sky
Light will unfurl
under nights blackest awning
Lo,
soon the day
must begin, by and by

Lo,
now the sun
comes alive o'er the mountains
Chasing the shadows
deep into their caves
Brightness pours forth
like the streams from a fountain
Lo,
feel the life
in its warm soothing waves

Lo,
as the dusk
settles into the evening
Across this valley
I've come to call home
Night follows day,
while the sun is receding
Lo,
I will sleep
when the darkness has grown

I like this line...because without the sun we would be nothing. Good write.

Hi, bags, I see you're an early riser, too. I like how the poem starts with dawn and ends with dusk. Sun rises and sunsets are my favorite times of day. It's fun to watch the changing colors in the sky. Very inspirational, too.

Hi Darlene,...yes I"m often up by 4. Can't sleep as soundly as I once did. It's OK though,...I find I'm able to get alot more done now. I read somewhere that sleeping less when one gets older is actually genetic. According to the article I read; Way back when our species were hunter/gatherers,...the old peoples sleep habits kept the rest of the tribe/clan safe when the younger folks were still asleep. We were kind of "watch dogs" so to speak. Nowadays the only thing we watch are reruns! Lol ! Always appreciate your kind comments. Thank you :computer:

You're still the best poet on the site Bags. Many of the subjects which you write about used to interest me as well...but I can still relate.

What a nice comment. Thanks Bruno. I find the older I get the more there is to be interested about. When I was younger all I was interested in was making a living. Now that life's slowed down abit,...it's amazing to realize what I was missing before. Hope you're doing well.
