Outsourcing Praise

As you finish your meal
Of fine rich cuisine
You hardly conceal
The joy it did bring

You practically praise
The steak and the taters
Belching up your thanks
While tipping both waiters

Then a box you request
To take the rest home
As the anonymous chef
Unacknowledged cooks on

You hop in your car
Patting softly her dash
You smile as she starts
And speeds along fast

Revving and racing
Shifting and squealing
There’s no containing
The freedom your feeling

As you soar through Detroit
Factories fading by fast
“Queen of the road” you anoint
Her, while smashing the gas

“Nature day” at the park
Is your destination
You arrive as they start
The yearly celebration

“Oh, thank you, Great Mother”
You sing as you spin
With your “sisters and brothers”
The festivities begin

Giving glory deemed due
To birds, trees and grass
The thunderclouds boom
As God starts to laugh

He takes a deep breath
As you strip away clothes
Trying to stifle a laugh
Cyclones shoot from His nose

Knocking over your car
Spilling steak on the ground
He’s giggling so hard
Tears of laughter rain down

“Rain clouds heed our call”
You shout and dance faster
Praised or not, through all
Still throned, sits the Master
