God, Adam and Me

Post by gordy » Wed Aug 14, 2002 3:36 pm

i wrote this for my lovely wife michelle, whatdya think....

God, Adam and Me

He had no limitations
All seeing, all knowing, all-powerful
Yet
Not satisfied
Yearning still for more, a companion, an equal
He needed love
No,
He had love inside of him
He needed someone to share it with
All seeing is useless with no one to show it
All knowing is pointless with no one to tell it
All-powerful is a weakness with no one to protect
All loving is a burden with no one to give it
Paradise is a wasteland when you are alone

So

He reached inside himself and pulled out,
Mankind—the replicating replica of himself
Setting him in the garden paradise
He gave him charge over everything
Only asking for one thing in return
Unconditional love

So

He had no limitations
All he saw,
Everything he knew,
They were all under his power
Yet
Not satisfied
Yearning still for more
He needed love

So

God reached inside of him and pulled out
Woman—the reproducing, nurturing side of mankind
Setting her in the garden beside him
Together they were complete
They had charge over everything
He only asked for one thing in return
Unconditional love

So
Off we go
How long ago I don’t really know
But eventually
We get to me
And

I had no limitations
I was free to look wherever I wanted
To learn whatever I wanted
To do whatever I wanted
Yet
Not satisfied
Yearning still for more
A companion, an equal
I needed love
No,
I had love inside of me
I needed someone I could share my love with
All I saw was useless
All I knew was pointless
All of my freedom just had me bound
All of my love was nothing but a burden
That I couldn’t bear on my own
The world was a wasteland
As long as I was alone

So

God reached into the world
And placed, right beside me,
You—your light shined into all my dark places
Revealing the garden paradise
I was living in all along
You gave me everything
Only asking for one thing in return
Unconditional love

You’re my creation
You’re my Eden
You’re my resurrection
You’re my rapture
You’re my heaven
You’re my completion
I love you forever

gordy's genesis! it was great, gordy. just the right mix of spiritual, personal, humorous, and poetic license. i don't think it was too long at all...just right.

I did not find it long either, Gordy! Oh, sure, at first I "thought" it was long, but as a lovely tribute to your wife, it read shortly sweet! Funny, I had been thinking of the length of poems, alot of people groan and do not want to read them, but, we read books way longer than a long, long poem. Odd, isn't it? i agree with you moongem, a lot of times even i wont read a poem if its too long but most of the time it is because i dont have that much time to stay on the computer. when someone is reading a book, usually they have more time. however this poem isnt really that long cuz the lines are kinda short, and i,m glad you liked it

I have always found it interesting that when God made woman He chose to use a rib. Why? I believe He chose it because it is closest to the heart. You see, God is a poetic soul. He is trying to tell us that our hearts become vulnerable when in love, we have to give something to recieve it - that the woman is a part of a man, a sacred part...and that only a woman can complete him.

Imthink that it is an honour to have a poem dedicated to you, Maggie
How much can I get away with and still go to heaven.
