On the outside looking in
keeping tabs and counting sins
making rules no one can keep
searching for suicidal sheep
high above and far away
marking time 'til judgement day
the illusion's all too real
but no apparent lack of zeal
among the teeming, faithful horde
some even deign to call you lord
as the night creeps so near
misapprehension leads to fear
fear marches headlong into war
God ever on our side
the grave cries out for evermore
truth washes in a crimson tide
from the inside looking out
sanity clings stubbornly to doubt
a child begins to silently pray
love like a lamb will lead the way
unadorned, without pretense
eternal life is present tense
freely give as we receive
more than one mind can conceive
a world without tears or pain
oppression caused by lust for gain
joyful and contented hearts
human kindness just could be
the place to start
out of the wilderness
of a self-imposed exile
a land of trust and forgiveness
we hope you'll stay for a while.

Re: Foreign Legion (All Ye Faithful)
If I know one thing for sure it's this: It's so much better on the inside looking out! Jesus is my Lord. The outside belongs to Satan. I would fear, too, if I were not within the protection of My Lord and Savior.

Re: Foreign Legion (All Ye Faithful)
One of the best poems I've read in a long time. This ballad - because that's how it sounds - could be the story of the ages insofar as our relationship to the other side is concerned. I did notice the two different scenarios based on the distorted view of looking from the outside in compared to the true religious impulse of looking from the inside out. At least that's how I read it!
