After My Life On Earth

Post by bags123 » Tue Apr 02, 2013 9:43 am

After My Life On Earth

Unto a darkened grave will I
in death find time to rest
Unburdened by all that I've known,
and all I once possessed

Released from any hope in life
that fueled my beating heart
Below the ground it's rhythmic sound
no longer plays it's part

But while I lie in death's cold grasp
life springs eternally
My soul awakes, and then it takes
just moments to be free

From there I'll wander near, and far
around the universe
To find the answers I want most
After my life on earth.
I prefer to keep an open mind,....but not so much that my brains fall out.- Carl Sagan

Thanks Heinz. I've always planned way in advance for any trips that I've gone on. Why should this be any different.

It's different because it's one you don't come back from...a one way trip. Whatever is imagined to happen afterwards must simply be imagined now in real time when it's most useful!

Have a great trip!

Here's to hoping that is a trip you don't get to make for quite some time.

Death is worth a bottle of whiskey and a box of cigars... There the great mystery has been solved. :hello:

Thanks for that LS! I made a few changes on this one, including the title. Most of my changes (other than the title  ) focused on the last stanza, which i was never happy with originally. I think this one is better. Hey,...next week I may want to change it again. I'm always editing older poems of mine that I find scattered about. Kinda like painting a big house. You're never really done. It's an ongoing project. When you reach where you started from it's time to start over again. More evidence for reincarnation I suppose, becuase I'm never gonna get this m----- ----er done in this lifetime. I go slower as I age too. Which compounds the problem further! Anyway,...hope ya'll like the changes. I'm just looking for confirmation from someone... (anyone except LS  )

Well expressed Bags! Your 3rd stanza very much reminds me of John Donne and the last brought back memories of a few lines in a poem I wrote a very long time ago. If I wouldn't occasionally be reading other people's poetry I would barely remember my own!
