I Live Here

Post by JukotoxKanashimi » Sun Apr 12, 2009 2:26 am

Living in California
you get all kinds of weather
if you head in the right direction.
We could go to the beach
or the mountains and look
upon the dandruff snow
with practiced affection
born out of the hands
of our mothers
and the overbearing
cadence of our fathers.

My love lives in California
with a hair clip balanced
between her thin lips,
solitary still like a Grecian statue
perched on her windowsill.
My love was convenient,
like leaning against
lock jawed Delilah
in the Piazza
and stealing a kiss
from chapped lips
just to see if my glasses
would get in the way.

I am moving to Canada.
I have placed what signs
of life I have left
in tidy boxes labelled "dishes,"
"clothes," and "random shit,"
and everybody hates the leaving,
the seeming of being dead
for months until a phone call
seems to make up for
lost evenings and
the absence of you
just not being there.

We don't get all kinds of weather anymore,
living here. No more dandruff snow
or fairy tale affection.
No, the snow comes down in
Icy chunks and hardens over
the city and my love is no white
princess but amongst the cold weather
and the denizens of this nation,
I feel I feel I feel
And it is elation.

If you don't like the view your best move is to change your view point

Or, of course, you could change your viewpoint.

@Oldpoet: I like tom petty. But I believe old bob dylan captures where I am right now in my life more.

thanks Heinz, I'm always sort of lurking around here, reading bits and things. Uni has kept me quite busy. My poems have been sitting in my word processor for awhile now and I've decided to share them.
