Regrets

Post by Old Poet » Wed Dec 17, 2008 8:52 pm

Regrets

Living is friendlier than dying
but there is always a price.

If you live long enough
there will be times to remember
and times to forget
and you will know
the ghosts of regret.

And the ones
that haunt you the most
are those where you knew
you had a choice.

Those where you knew
you might have reined yourself in,
those where you looked into your mirror
and everything solid and sane
about yourself looked back
and said, "Stop."

But you looked away,
and held your course.

Those are the regrets
that will haunt you
all the days of your life.

but I ain't got wings.
Coming down,
is the hardest thing." - Tom Petty

true! so hauntingly true. this poem makes me think of all the bad choices that i made that i knew were bad but i did them anyway because it was easier than doing the right thing. are bad decesions just lazyness? decisons we make because we're tired of the constant battle to be a good person? what do you think

Ahhh, Queen, we do what we do as a result of the desire and impetus of our basest needs. But the counterpoint, as rare as it may be, is in confession. Not to some vague higher power but to the one entity that can grant absolution - oneself. I doubt that laziness is a factor in your case. To post on a forum such as this does not connote laziness - it speaks of introspection and honesty.

Thank you for your response!
