For the Sale of Wisdom

For the Sale of Wisdom

If you make your way by the lake
There is a woman who will take
All your coins
To tell you what ever you want to hear
When you get to the other side
Don’t forget to ask about the lies
The ones she wouldn’t tell ya

At the top of the hill
There is a sign on a tree
Pointing the way to Mordor
That’s not a way to go
No one knows why
None has ever returned

In a town close by
There’s a little girl at the well
She will give you advise
All you will have to do
Is carry her pail
But don’t spill any water
She has been known
To lie too

Look for the stables
An ugly brute of a man
Sells the best
Buying the brown horse
Will take you far
He seems to never tire

When you get to where you’re going
You can sell him for all the knowledge
That is for sell
By the time you get home
You will know
Not all that glitters is sold
Its what you know
That is worth all that is gold

Don’t believe everything you are told
Follow the heart
It will get to where you want to go
When you understand
Wisdom its not bought
It is as free as the wind.

It may be an unintended double entendre, but the idea of a fallow heart is interesting in the context of the piece.
