Pavlov's Dawgs (Razing your children)

This C.D. behavior has got to stop
It's all over, from rap to pop
It's true talented lyricists deserve their props
But some of this crap causes my jaw to drop

Behind the greed door, they only care about sales
Pornographic videos to make mediocre music sell
Eminem, poison candy with a white sugar shell
"He's sorry momma" as his bank account swells

So many role models to emulate
So why do all their names begin with "late"
As in, The late Tupac, Biggie or Jam Master Jay
To me, it seems too high a price to pay

Bling Bling...The Idol gyrates
Bling Bling...The dawgs salivate
Bling Bling...The children emulate
Bling Bling...The lifestyle is fake
Bling Bling...With your money they perpetuate
Bling Bling...Your child's mind is raped
Bling Bling...It's their bell that resonates
Bling Bling...Like pavlov's dog's, your children salivate

These people are Razing your children!

Wow, Gordy, this is fantastic!! Looks like your back on track, with gusto and succinctness that a lot of us can appreciate. I get blood-risingly pissed off with the blatant overuse of barely dressed, gyrating, practically fornicating sexuality in much of our music videos, commercials, advertisements, movies, pretty much the whole entertainment field, and don't get me going about young girl's clothing in our now, sadly, uninnocent world...which, in an all too horrible reptrospect, is the same way my parents thought. Granted, there is a chasm between then and now, yet, decades from "our" now, our children will be thinking these same thoughts, about their times...I can't even imagine what they will be going through, so much has been done, it's hard to think of what will come into fashion, musically, and in all ways, really. Will the CD or DVD be like the 8-track cassette tape, in 25 years? When my kids are my age? Probably so. Which doesn't help us, in our present, our children are not children for long, anymore, I wish I could give them my childhood.

Thanks everyone......... I do think that there are similarities in the fact that all parents disagree with the styles of entertainment and clothing that the next generation wears, however i think it has gotten way out of hand. this generation is different, mainly because a lot of the parents are wanting to be "friends" with their children instead of raising their children. Morals are not taught and half the time the father is not in the house so these awful images seen on television or heard on the radio are the only role models they know how to follow. so if a young teen sees a rap star with four girls in a hottub , then he thinks thats all girls are for, something to play with in a hottub, and the same for young women, either thay think they need to be the one in the hottub or they hate all men and then they get warped that way........I dont think the problem is that we (parents) are turning into our parents, i think the problem is, not enough of todays parents are instilling their parents values on their children. Children are worshiped like Idols nowadays, you cant whip them you have to cater to them you have to have them in forty five extracirricular activities or you are a bad parent. well if they are never with you and always somewhere doing an activity and if you cant discipline them when you are around them then no wonder things are like they are. now you got me ranting at 600am in the morning.....geez.....well i better stop now, once again thanks for everyone who responded

I agree with a lot of this. But Jam Master Jay was a dj for Run DMC - they were HIP HOP, not gangsta rap. They had a different message. I don't think you can put them in the same category together. Just my opinion.

Ah... you're making it sound like ALL kids like me listen to that stuff but we really dont. that what it may seem like, but we actually have this HUGE variety of stuff that we like. Just cuz MTV, VH1, and BET show all of that, doesn't mean we listen to it. Sure, there are a bunch of people that like that stuff... but really, I listen to Christian rock and pop and so do my friends at school (we even go to a public school) but some of my friends listen to eminem and 50 cent. But, it's their choice to what they listen too. Sooner or later they'll figure out that you gotta listen to the words and not just sing them.

Otherwise, good poem.

i realize jam master jay was hip hop but i didnt really mean to put him in gangsta category, more like in the "dead" category, killed over east coast west coast crap or whatever...its just a waste.......and i realize that not all kids listen to that stuff but one kid is too many for me. thanks for your comments though, they are all appreciated

Gordy, absolutely awesome work. I love the Pavlov connection.

Music does affect us mentally. In a study, scientists played different types of music in a liquor store. When they played Russian music, the sale of Vodka went up - when they played Mexican, Tequila sales boomed - and so-on. Music touches us on a deeper level than most would like to admit.

Not me, though. (Paul is a dead man! Miss him! Miss him!) natas pihsrow...

haha... that's a cool expirement... lol. i didn't say it didn't effect the way we lived... i know it effects the way i live everyday. i'm usually kinda calm throughout the day after band (unless it's friday when i'm playing in the jazz band) so i know what it's like... and it also effects pulse rates as i just did a project on it
