Broken Umbrella

Broken Umbrella

I am always amazed and shocked
when the storms come each day
and you choose to stand and hold
this umbrella, broken and frayed

I want so much to stop the rain
from falling, and the wind from blowing
But when you lean on me, I can't help but feel
There are better shelters where you could be going

Yet a broken umbrella you still choose
when you need protection from the pain
I see what looks like better shiny umbrellas
but their loss is my great gain

So forever I will thank you
for your true love and devotion
They are the only things that can patch up
and use an umbrella that was broken

I wrote this after my wife wrote me an awesome note telling me, among other things, how she felt protected by me.........this amazed me since I don't feel like much of a protector.......so I wrote her this poem in response

Gordy this is so beautiful..and you are her umbrella a shelter for her..she iisn't looking for perfection but see the perfect one who dwells in your heart Jesus Christ..serving Him alone she is protected from the storms of life..she looks beyond any imperfections, and looks to the love you have for her..and the love of Christ which shines through you..

Wow, Gordy. My umbrella is broken too... but unfortunately doesn't have the insight that you do, to see that some people prefer the comfortable old handle and predictable coverage to a newer model, cold to the touch and possibly undependable. Keep covering her... and keep sharing amazing writing like this. Thank U. 'Chelle

Gordy;

This is cool :-). Reminds me of my dad. He gave me an umbrella. I felt silly using it. I never minded the rain, but his gift of love is a treasure not to be taken lightly. Thank you for this cool write.
