Re: Civilization peaks and valleys

A hope is a spark and millions of sparks can become a mighty blaze Maximus. Our history is about individuals riding the current of the masses. The macro changes we are waiting for are apparent in the micro even while we feel alone and powerless. IMO of course.

Re: Civilization peaks and valleys

Hey Mike: We are for good or ill, a profoundly lazy species. Sometimes great suffering is the impetus to a paradigm shift. In each heart and in one's country the suffering takes on many forms but the cause of almost all suffering is one :fear. Fear is behind all religious commandments and hadiths. A...

A Thought For Poets In Iran

It's a struggle for free expression in many places on earth although I find it most distressing when Poets are the targets of tyranny. Maybe it's because poetry comes mostly from the heart and is seldom calculating, power seeking or overtly egotistical. So my thoughts are with these Poets languishin...

Re: A walk at night.

The experts have determined that the growth in my abdomen is situated in a area that is too difficult to do a biopsy on. There are various reasons for this including the location being between and possibly joined to 2 internal organs so that it only appears momentarily under the ribs during ultra so...

Re: A walk at night.

Thank you Nekot. Sharing such thoughts isn't easy but the realisation that someone actually hears/reads/understands...........well, that is really something.

My fondest regards to you and yours,

ET

Re: A walk at night.

Am awaiting word from the Oncologist about surgery and alternatives but I am hopeful (full of hope?). In any case; my bucket list is complete (except for Charlize Theron) and I am ready for what tomorrow brings. Thanks for the sage advice about enjoying every minute and no need to be sorry, Gerry. I...

A walk at night.

I used to walk a lot when I was younger and the late hours of night before dawn was my favorite time. The quiet of Lake Christina seemed almost surreal in those halcyon days. I reminisce as I walk by a different shimmering body of water; this one closer to the Rockies and the snow capped birthplace ...

Re: The weather made me do it

Similar to the naming of Canada from what I understand. When Cartier the explorer first pointed to some log huts and asked the locals what is this called, they replied 'kanata' meaning village. The bozos thought that was the name of that part of country and it's been called that since. Apparently th...

Re: Civilization peaks and valleys

Don't forget that we were one generation removed from a million or so emaciated Jews and Socialists rotting in lime lined pits in a little opus called the Holocaust and our challenge to change the world was a undertaking of gargantuan proportions. It was inevitable that we would naturally grew older...

Re: Civilization peaks and valleys

I suppose the counter culture that characterized our generation proved less durable or sagacious than we might have believed back in the day but it had it's moments. I agree we all present the culture warrior image to some degree; Americans more than most. Perhaps it's the corporate message of confo...

Re: Civilization peaks and valleys

Tell me if I'm wrong but I think your avatar of Christ represents your strong pluralist views and that isn't a coincidence as many people believe if God didn't exist we would have created him in 'our image'. On a personal level I find Christ attractive as a role model. The "Messiah" rationale not so...
