Re: It's The Gun Stupid

I can't answer that because the scenario is far less likely to happen in Canada then you seem to believe where you live. Like I said statistically more innocent people are killed by relatives here and even by cops than by criminals. Why would I dwell under such paranoia if the threat is negligible. ...

Re: It's The Gun Stupid

i wouldn't shoot those people either. i gave you an example of how i would defend myself but you refuse to acknowledge that. you have your idealistic view of things. they don't translate into all scenarios. what would you do if your wife or child was potentially mortally threatened and you had the ...

Re: It's The Gun Stupid

most of the shootings are from people who would not register their guns or obey any laws enacted NOW. do you really think all the shootings in chicago over the 4th of july weekend would have been stopped with stricter gun laws??? I've often said that stopping the gun merchants is the way to go. Mex...

Re: It's The Gun Stupid

No I shop downtown in areas where people sit on the sidewalks and shoot up heroin. I often pass the Insite where addicts have safe access to needles and medical care. I don't feel threatened by them other then their odd begging for "spare change" they don't bother me. The only harassment I and membe...

Re: It's The Gun Stupid

Why would you have a gun if you lived in those parts of your city? Explain what makes that area different and why, if you could. I lived much of my life in Vancouver, Canada (GVR district population of 2.5 million people) and never felt the need for a gun in any neighborhood. 2008 stats: http://heed...

Re: It's The Gun Stupid

A return to the ban on military grade weapons would be a good start and limiting the size of clips for other guns. Requiring proper storage of guns at home could save a lot of kids lives too. Stand your ground laws are poorly disguised passes to kill people that annoy you for some reason or another ...

It's The Gun Stupid

I get tired of reading how every headline shooting is the result of insanity, as if the outbreak of insanity is like flu season these days, There has been more than 70 mass killings in the U.S. in the past three decades that I've managed to read about in the news; more than a dozen in the past two y...

Re: Federal Crackdown on Narcotic Medications Ruined Vacation

Narco products are treated differently in my part of the world. First of all, real junkies can safely inject themselves at a place called Insite where they get clean needles and a safe place away from the street to shoot up. Secondly we sentence those who commit property crimes to feed a habit to tr...

Re: oops !

Boeing out of Seattle once proposed building a wide body uni-wing design similar to the stealth bomber where passengers would share a frontal cockpit view but it was cheaper to keep building the cigar tube design currently favored by the airlines. Maybe someday when airlines fly the edge of the atmo...

Re: Leonard Cohen Vs Neil Diamond

Diamond was always a singer and a pop song writer (he wrote I'm a Believer for the Monkees) while Cohen was popular in café circles as a poet. It was Carol King who convinced the older Cohen to try his poem Suzanne on stage and I recall hearing his first album when visiting a girlfriend on campus. T...

Re: JFK and Poetry

It's pretty clear to me at least,...why JFK was murdered. Direct conflict with the "Military Industrial Complex". Those entities who profit from war's carnage at the cost of the people who die. America was never intended to be an "Empire",...it was established as a free Republic. The wars we've bee...

JFK and Poetry

"When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses..........I look forward to a America that will not be afraid of grace a...

Re: Fueling Destiny

The sheep skin cynic is our only reasonable hope to clear the air of the miasma created by the dupes of public education. Hitler, Stalin and Tojo wouldn't have had their war if not for teachers spreading their words. The same can be said for the Jihadis through their madrassas. We have our own examp...

Re: Late Rain at North Lake

Nice imagery that could describe any of dozens of lakes nearby. The bullfrogs of my childhood have mostly disappeared due to real estate development that has replaced the marshes and estuaries with summer homes. I miss their nightly chorus around the campfire.
