Juko, I'm so deeply saddened by your experience. I'm even more saddened by your tangle of feelings - longings, self-doubts, recriminations, confusions, frustrations .... There's not a lot I can say. I'm glad that you're dealing with it, and trying to work through everything rather than keeping it in...

Interesting you should say that, deborah... I never heard tenderness in the voice (or saw it on the face) of my crabby, quiet, old german grandfather until he tried to explain, unbidden by us, that he had to put his wife of 40 years in extended care because she no longer knew him, and would repeated...

Yes - for me, there's a moment of freefall as the haiku shifts and opens my perceptions. The better the haiku, the longer the freefall. And true - the vast majority here is senryu - also lovely in its own right. richard a true haiku can indeed be breathtaking and can make you stop in your tracks and...

I agree, Heinz - Walter Arndt does a poor job of rendering Rilke. Though he is also a bit flat and loses some nuance, I usually trust Stephen Mitchell the most, particularly for something like "Letters to Young Poet" or "The Notebooks of Malte Laurdis Brigge". Spot on for the prose, but drifts a bit...
